Notebook 14
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi.

I have an HP Notebook that my husband brought me end of 2017. For the past few weeks every time I press the left shift key an ,  appears and when I press the right shift key a i appears (without pushing any other buttons).

I first contacted Microsoft about the problem and they did everything possible including remote access and couldn't find the problem.

I have tried plugging in an external keyboard and that did not have an issue at all. I have done a keyboard diagnostic test and although it came back as passed, it showed the Shift keys and the , and i are linked. I have tried holding down both Shift keys at the same time and that hasn't solved the problem.

I have spoken to HP Support on Twitter and they are as puzzled as I am and believe it may be a hardware problem but are unsure.

Has anyone encountered this and can anyone help?

@Feebeefi

The use of the external keyboard without the issues would tend to indicate that it IS a hardware issue with the built-in keyboard -- but those almost always manifest themselves in either stuck keys or nonfunctioning keys.  This is a different issue.

Look through this material to see if any of the settings are different for your keyboard:  https://www.zerodollartips.com/windows-10-keyboard-settings/
