Pavilion g6-1189sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all,

Last night the fan in my Pavilion g6-1189sa laptop started acting up. It's working intermittently, cycling on at quite regular intervals at max speed for 10 seconds or so, then off again for a approx a minute before repeating the cycle. I'm thinking the fan is passed its best, perhaps going open circuit in a thermal cycle.

Perhaps of note, (or not!) I allowed the latest Windows 10 update to take place. I thought I'd check in with you all before stripping the lappy down for fan replacement just in case this behaviour is a new (unintended!) feature of the Windows update 🙂

Regards.. Mark

Hi Mark,

Has Windows 10 completly updated? You can go into settings Update and Security > click on Verify for updates (let them all install with necessary reboots.

In the Windows update history check if the Intel chipset drivers and Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver have been installed.

After this, go into Device Manager and see if any drivers seem to be missing or not working.

Let me know,

David
