Hi,
The laptop used to show driver power state failure randomly while shutting down and while restarting so I thought of running a short DST check to check if the hard disk is functioning okay. To my surprise the short DST returned "Failed" with a message saying "Primary HDD Bay". As far the hardware status of this laptop is concerned the laptop has never experienced any kind of physical damage or drops.
The driver power state failure is sort of gone since I reset the battery power settings to HP recommended (it was earlier on power saver) however I do get it randomly but in less instances.
But the Short DST test is failing whenever I run it. What should I do?

Hi:
The Short DST Check Failure report means that you need to replace the hard drive and reinstall the operating system.
If you can still get into Windows, back up any files you want to save onto a portable hard drive. Then replace the hard drive.
Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

After you replace the hard drive, you can reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook by creating a USB recovery drive using the HP cloud recovery tool.
Here is an info link for how to use that utility...

HI,
Thanks for reply. Unfortunately I don't have any spare Hard disk drives (new) which I could use. The laptop was bought in 2017 so isn't it too early for the hard disk to show an error like that?
Can I provide you with an error code which it displays while showing the error?
here is the error code :
UAKXG3-881A2G-XD7X7G-60R903
Primary HDD Bay*

You're very welcome.
You can look the code up at the link below. It won't tell you much more than I already have.
You will need to buy a new hard drive.

hey, thanks for the reply.
As you suggested the link to manual of this laptop, it shows there's a possibility of a M.2 slot. And if that is so then will it be ideal to teardown the laptop myself and get a M.2 ssd installed or I will have to get it checked and done by/at a HP authorized dealer?

You're very welcome.
Only the 15-ay### models that came with a M.2 drive would have the M.2 SSD board.
When you open up your notebook to replace the drive, you will find an empty space where the M.2 SSD board would have gone.
Since your notebook (if it had a M.2 slot), only supports SATA M.2 SSD's, there really is no advantage with a M.2 SSD over just replacing your 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SSD.
