Hi,

I've been having trouble with my laptop battery for a couple of months. The battery often drains quite quickly but I've also noticed the % move up and down strangely. For example, I charge it to 100% (based on the LED light near the charging point turning white), and I turn the notebook on, while the charger is plugged in the battery is shown as 100% however as soon as I take the charger out it drops to 60%. Putting in the charger takes it back up to 99-100%.  I've completed a HP battery check which says I need to recalibrate my battery, which I did (by allowing it to drain and recharge for 3+ hours) but no result, still erratic. I'm not sure what to do now as the laptop works perfectly otherwise, and I assume I need a battery replacement however I'm not an expert. Any ideas? Thanks!

(PS. not sure if this is entirely relevant but I've tried testing my battery using  HP PC Hardware Diagnostics but each time I run it it simply shows up as 'Cancelled'.)

HI,

Yes, you should replace the battery. I usually replace the battery in my notebooks about every 18 -24 months as I  will notice the degradation.

The part number for the battery is 859356-855

You can try an online search with part number or some reseller in the UK.

Example:

https://uk.eetgroup.com/search?query=859356-855

On page 26 of service manual you can see the steps to replace the battery

Hope it helps,

David
