HP Spectre x360 13-aw0020ng
Microsoft Windows 11

My spectre x360 13 is suddenly completely dead. Before I spend money on a new battery I decided to try and see if it works without the battery installed but with the charger connected. That didn't work, is that to be expected or could I have some other issues than the battery?

Is there a way to find out what exactly is wrong so I can fix it? Warranty is over unfortunately

Hi @Basti1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Before attempting to use your HP Spectre x360 13 without the battery, please keep in mind that removing the battery can be risky and may void your warranty. If your laptop is still under warranty, it's best to contact HP support or an authorized service center to handle the issue.

However, if you're comfortable proceeding and the warranty is no longer valid, you can try the following steps:

  • Shut down the laptop: Ensure the laptop is turned off completely before attempting any hardware changes.
  • Unplug the charger: Disconnect the laptop from the charger to avoid any electrical interference.
  • Remove the battery (if possible): Depending on the model, some HP Spectre x360 laptops have a removable battery, while others have integrated batteries that are not meant to be easily removed. If your model has a removable battery, follow the manufacturer's instructions to remove it safely. Otherwise, skip this step.
  • Press and hold the power button: After removing the battery (if applicable), press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds. This will help discharge any remaining electrical charge in the system.
  • Reconnect the charger: Plug the charger back into the laptop.
  • Power on the laptop: Try turning on the laptop without the battery installed. If everything is working fine, the laptop should boot up using only the charger as a power source.
  • If the laptop turns on and functions normally without the battery, it's possible that the battery was faulty and causing the issue. In this case, you may consider replacing the battery with a new one.

However, if the laptop remains completely dead or shows no signs of life, there might be other hardware issues at play.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
