HP Notebook - 15-bs289wm
Microsoft Windows 11

The max ram for the motherboard seems to bee 16GB with 2 slots. the processor is limited to 8GB.

The HP service manual states that the Intel Pentium Silver N5000 is single channel support so  I don't know if I should use 1 8GB stick or 2 4Gb sticks. Because the processor does not have dual channel support.

I know if you use 2 stick of ram with dual channel support it helps you go through data faster but does it make a difference in a single channel supported processor?

Hi:

I suggest that you open up the notebook and confirm that there are two memory slots.

Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates that the notebooks with the Pentium Silver N5000 only have one memory slot and the maximum memory the slot can support is 1 x 8 GB.

See the bottom of page 1>top of page 2.

One non-customer-accessible/upgradable memory module slot

Supports up to 4 GB (4096×1) of DDR4-2400 single channel support (Intel Pentium Silver N5000, Celeron
N4000 processors)

The 4 GB max is incorrect.

Intel Pentium Silver N5000 Processor 4M Cache up to 2.70 GHz Product Specifications

If you used some kind of program to determine how many slots the notebook has, it is picking up a false reading of the partial circuitry that is on the motherboard for a second slot.

You're very welcome.

I am almost 100% positive that there is only one memory slot.
