HP Laptop PC 15-dy2000 (2D115AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, I'm having trouble connecting dual monitors to my HP laptop. I've contacted support, tried 2 different USB-C docking stations with no luck. I continue to get "ort reset failure" error. Support indicated my laptop/graphics card can support 2 external monitors.

What is your HP Laptop PC 15-dy2000 (2D115AV) machine ? It could be one of the following machines

                   https://support.hp.com/ca-en/product/product-specs/hp-laptop-pc-15-dy2000/model/38752859

For example:    HP Laptop 15-dy2093dx

It ONLY has 1 hopeless SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to

  • Charge your machine,
  • Connect to an external monitor with/without hub/dock/adapter (some hubs may have builtin chip to support this)

If you wish to connect 2 external monitors (only-total 3), you can use

  • Monitor 1: HDMI direct cable,
  • Monitor 2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as

                                     USB to HDMI Adapter
