I've tried multiple resolutions on the VGA Acer monitor. After hot docking, it will allow me to change resolution to 1600x1200 (recommend resolution for the Acer 22" monitor is 1680x1050). Once I change it to that, it will work, until the next time the laptop is undocked, opened, closed, and then re-docked.
Adding the monitor drivers makes no difference. I've tried this on multiple monitors, same results. The majority of the users I support have this model, and this is duplicated on each of their computers. All of them have 840 G3's with that older dock, and using dual Acer v223w monitors.

To my understanding the dock that you have does not have FW unlike the 2013 Ultra Slim dock. Therefore, there are no updates to the dock. Additionally, to my understanding, the dock is a passthru for video so the issue you are reporting is possibly a video driver issue with the 840 G3.
I suggest that you contact HP Technical Support and get a case created so the development teams can investigate the issue. When you talk to technical support include all of the previous troubleshooting that has been attempted as this will help with further testing.
The dock you are using is an older dock but I am certain there are still a large number of them being used by customers. I am confident that our technical support team can provide you some assistance.

If you take a moment and look back at the entire thread I have been answering questions concerning multiple docks.
B9C87AA was the original Ultra Slim dock and is no longer in production. It appears you are not interested in this dock but there was a customer on the thread referencing the dock and so I provided some information.
D9Y32UT and D9Y32AA are different part numbers for the current Ultra Slim dock.
Here are links to information concerning the current Ultra Slim dock.

Specific information concerning the Ultra Slim dock I believe start on page 36.

unable to find your part number anywhere with a google search. Please post a link to what you have.If your shopping, buy D9Y32AA#ABA as it's the safest, and probably cheapest.
There should be more than 1 part number on the bottom of the unit as HP sells these under different numbers in different channels.
Do the firmware upgrade to 2.30 with the laptop in the dock and attached to power.

Thanks for the reply. I should have stated the background for my question..
I have both docking stations. I received the 6PA32AV#ABA just recently and is the newer one by almost a year. They look identical and was wondering if there was any advantage to replacing the older one. I have also done a google search with no results, so I wanted to ask the techs here on this forum. If there is another forum where I could get another answer please let me know..

Flip it over and take a pic of the product info.
Need more info to xref it.
That said, I know the older one works with as many as 2 external 1920x1080 monitors and all other ports properly on an 840 G1 and G2.
