Slimtype USB DVD/CD Drive will not connect to HP 15s-eq1096tu

Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When I try and connect a Slimtype esAU108  DVD/CD drive  to my HP15s -eq1096tu running Windows 10, the drive spins up and down periodically but does not appear in File Explorer and DVDs cannot be played. The drive does appear in Device Manager, and the driver is up to date.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Have you tried with different USB flash drive on this computer?
  • Have you checked Slimtype USB DVD/CD Drive on different computer?
  • Have you tried with different USB ports?

A more modern USB DVD/CD Drive works OK. The Slimtype dates from 2008, but works OK on other computers running Windows 10 and on a 2014 HP Pavilion Notebook running Windows 8.1.

As you've confirmed that modern USB DVD drive works fine with computer that confirm it's a compatibility issue with drive not with the computer.
