Hello,
I am using an HP ZBook 8 G1i 14‑inch Mobile Workstation (BIOS X70 Ver. 01.03.02). The fingerprint reader works, but it consistently initializes with a noticeable delay when signing in. The sensor becomes active only after 2-5 seconds, and Windows often shows the PIN prompt first before the fingerprint option becomes available.

I have already updated all drivers through HP Support Assistant and Windows Update, but the behavior has not improved. I also cannot find any biometric‑related options in the BIOS that would allow prioritizing or keeping the fingerprint sensor active during Modern Standby.

My old windows laptop from year 2023 from another brand has no such delay issues and runs on same windows version.

I would appreciate guidance on how to reduce the delay and make Windows Hello fingerprint the primary and fastest sign‑in method on this device.

Thank you.

This delay is not a hardware fault.
It is caused by power-management + Windows Hello initialization order on HP ZBook systems using Modern Standby (S0ix) and ELAN WBF fingerprint sensors.

Windows loads the PIN UI first while the fingerprint sensor wakes from a low-power state. Your older 2023 laptop likely used a different sensor/firmware that stayed active.

Disable Power Saving for the Fingerprint Sensor (Most Important)
This step alone fixes the delay for many users.
Open Device Manager
Expand Biometric Devices
Right-click ELAN WBF Fingerprint Sensor
Go to Power Management
Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
Click OK
Restart

If there is no Power Management tab, do the same for:
USB Root Hub
Intel USB Controller (under USB controllers)

Hi, I have applied the recommended change - unchecked “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.” from Power Management of my biometric device "Synaptics FS7606 Touch Fingerprint Sensor with PurePrint(TM)", but this does not help. What more could be done ?
