HP Notebook - 15-da0087nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello all,

I have a computer that I bought two years ago. It is very slow and I want to be able to upgrade the RAM to speed it up. Is this laptop model upgradeable, or is it not the type of laptop that can be upgraded? I have never opened up a laptop before, so I wanted to check here to make sure it was doable before I start tinkering with its insides. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

It is an HP Model 15-da0087nr.

Its specs

To improve its sped, you can upgrade

1. RAM: Its specs does not say how much it has now but you can upgrade to 16GB or 32GB if you wish. I believe it has 8GB in one slot now, you can simply add same existing 8GB to slot 2 to have 16GB. For 32GB, you can use

2.  STORAGE: it has 1 TB 5400 rpm SATA now, you can add M.2 SATA/NVMe SSD to your machine and use it as main drive, keep existing HDD for data/uesr files. You can use Crucial P2, P5 or Samsung 970 EVO

Regards.

Hello Rdelacrz,

Your biggest issue is probably not the RAM, but instead the hard drive. Your device comes with a 1TB hard disk I believe. Hard drives are often the culprit of a slow machine, and upgrading to an SSD (Solid State Drive) would probably help the most. I had the same issue on mine, which is a similar model with the same chassis and cpu. SSD fixed it. But 8 GB of RAM isnt great either if you have like more than 10 chrome tabs open at once. I also believe the RAM in your model can be upgraded. 16 GB should be plenty. What sort of applications do you run, and how long is the bootup time? If the bootup time is more than like 30 - 40 seconds, than it is the hard drive. Additionally, check task manager. If the disk is at 100% in the performance tab, than that confirms the Hard drive is slow. By the way, I am not an HP employee, so there may be another issue I dont know about.

Hope this helps, Alex
