Hi there,
My laptop: HP Pavilion - 15-bc200nl
just got a message of an imminent failure of my SSD, error 301. I hope to be able to write this post before it blow up
I'm backing up all my files and then I guess I'll proceed with a SSD replacement since this seems to be the best solution I've found in internet.
I've found Samsung 970 EVO 250 or 500gb on Amazon can someone please confirm that it would be ok?
Also, can someone point me out a procedure to install the windows I have on this machine on the new SSD?
Thanks for the help guys!
Ricky

You are on the right track. The M.2 slot can take an NVME M.2 and the Samsung 970 is one of the more poplular ones out there but it is not what HP delivers. There are not a lot of reports out there on User Experience with the 970 but I can tell you quite a few people had troubles with its immediate predecessor the 960. We know the Samsung PM961 will work but it is a bit hard to find. I just successfully installed an Adata SX6000 in a similar HP laptop and it worked fine. Got a good deal on it on amazon.com too.
As far as reinstalling Windows there are several ways but basically breaks down to 3 categories: 1. Use an HP recovery disk you can make from the HP Recovery app preloaded on the machine from the factory. If the original 128 gig M.2 is bad you may not be able to do this or 2. clone the existing disk to the new. Again if the original is corrupt this will not be possible; and 3. clean install. Go to the Microsoft Media Creation Tool site and download the image to make a thumb drive which will reinstall Windows 10. You need no Key Code or other credentials it will just activate. We can get you drivers and utility type apps from this site or if you can still copy the C:\swsetup folder off the old disk it contains all original drivers and utility type apps.
Here's the manual:
Start on p. 37 and when you open it the M.2 slot is right to the left of the battery.
Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if its the info you needed.

Thanks for the super quick answer!
So far my laptop is still working fine, so I hope to be able to use the HP recovery app! That would be great and pretty quick too!
I've also finished backing up all my files...such a big relief!
Now I can relax a bit!
I've found on Amazon both SSDs, the XPG ASX6000 512gb and the PM961 128gb...which one would you recommend for my laptop?
Thanks again,
Ricky
