Hello! I've just had this error [SMART disk imminent failure] pop up and would like your help with working out if i need to replace the hard drive and how i go about that, and if i can get a larger storage hard drive when i do replace it. I have backed up all my data. I have seen some previous conversations about this issue but they were archived in 2018 so want to make sure i have the most up to date information. Also does this error come up if the hard drive is full? Many thanks!

If the hard disk is full, a crash is also imminent.
Why do you ask? Is the hard disk near full?
"SMART disk imminent failure" is a prediction provided by the firmware on the SSD that the disk is reaching end of service life and it needs to be replaced with a new one.

A replacement needs to be an PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD of up to 2TB. My own preference is Samsung.
You will need patience, a ne M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD, PC toolkit and a cup or something else to put the tiny screws in. Once you remove the base you will see the M.2 SSD. Gently remove the silver (thermal heat spreader) cover. You will need it for the new one.

Hi Erico - THank you so much for your reply. I really appreciate it. I have made space on my laytop JIC and have also downloaded the most up to date diagnostics from HP and yes it's still saying the Smart disk has an error. Are those pieces of kit easy to come by? and so I can replace the hard disk with one with more RAM? That's good! THANK YOU!

You can replace the SSD with one that has more storage capacity. Up to 2TB of storage capacity will be supported by your laptop.
They are sold at laptop/PC shops and online.
You can buy one that has the specifications your laptop requires at Amazon.co.uk.
See the results of the search below. I suggest staying with mainstream brands, like Samsung, Crucial, Kingston.
