Hi @152Mia,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop is showing a SMART Hard Disk Error, it means the system has detected that your hard drive is failing or is at risk of failing soon. Here's what you can do:

1. Back Up Your Data Immediately

If the system still boots into Windows:

  • Copy your important files to an external drive or cloud storage (OneDrive, Google Drive, etc.)
  • Do this before doing anything else

If it doesn’t boot:

  • You can try booting from a USB recovery drive or a Linux live USB to access your files.

2. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Turn it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then press F2.
  3. Run the Hard Drive Test.

If it fails, the drive is confirmed to be faulty.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
