Hi, the control key on my HP Envy x360 13 inch laptop has snapped in the corner but the key is still intact. I bought the exact replacement key off a seller on eBay but a few computer repair shops have said the whole keyboard needs replacing. I wanted to check on here if the key is fixable by replacing one key. Thanks

Hi @Mozzymodo,
Thank you for your response.
To safely remove the key on your laptop keyboard, follow these steps:
Turn off your laptop: It’s always a good idea to power off the laptop before performing any hardware work.
Use a plastic tool or prying tool: Avoid using metal tools, as they can damage the key mechanism or the surrounding areas. A plastic prying tool or an old credit card works well for this purpose.
Lift the key gently: Position the prying tool under the edge of the keycap. Start with the corner of the key (preferably the side that's damaged or closest to you) and gently lift the key upwards. Apply light and even pressure. The key should pop off without too much force.
Inspect the mechanism: After removing the key, inspect the key mechanism underneath. Make sure it’s intact and not damaged. If the scissor mechanism is still functional, you can simply clip the new keycap onto the mechanism.
Install the new key: Line up the new keycap with the mechanism, ensuring that the clips fit properly. Press down gently but firmly until you hear it snap into place.

@Mozzymodo, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Check the Key & Mechanism
Gently remove the key from the keyboard.
Look at the part underneath (called the scissor mechanism). If it’s broken, replacing the key won’t help.
If the scissor mechanism is fine and just the key snapped, you can try putting the new key back on by pressing it down until it clicks into place.
Test the key.
After snapping the new key in place, press it a few times to see if it works.
If It’s Still Broken
If the mechanism underneath is damaged, you’ll probably need a new keyboard.
Sometimes, replacing just one key can work if the mechanism is fine.
HP Envy x360 Keyboard Troubleshooting:
Check the Keyboard Connection (only if you're comfortable opening your laptop):
Make sure the keyboard is connected to the laptop inside.
Run HP Diagnostics:
Restart your laptop and press Esc as it starts.
Select System Diagnostics > Keyboard Test.
Reinstall Keyboard Driver:
Go to Device Manager > Keyboards, right-click the driver and uninstall.
Restart your laptop to reinstall it automatically.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
