I own hp pavillion g6 1010tu it's really old so I was thinking to upgrade so I found a manual for it online (I don't think the manual is for the exact g6 laptop) It said that the laptop would come with a "Intel® Core™ i7-2620M processor(2.7 GHz, SC turbo up to 3.40 GHz, 4MB L3), Dual 35 W" and my existing processor is Intel Core i3-390M processor (2.66GHz, 3 MB L3), Dual 35 W
Can I upgrade to that processor without a problem

If your notebook only has an Intel 1st Generation dual core processor, you can only upgrade it to a better Intel 1st generation dual core processor.
According to chapter 1 of the service manual, that would be the Intel Core i5-480M.

The Intel 2nd generation core processors use a motherboard with the HM65 chipset and yours has the HM55 chipset used for 1st gen processors.
If you want to experiment with a first gen i7 dual core processor, perhaps this one would work:
