HP Laptop - 15-dw2012ca
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Just bought this Laptop and it’s UEFI. When I press escape as it boots loads the ‘old school’ looking legacy bios. (Without advanced options).

so I figure OK I must be something I have to turn on. I do some reading it says to boot in recovery and you from there you are able to go into ‘Advanced’ UEFI options. When I click, it’s just brings me to the same bios as when I booted originally and has the same settings.
soooooo? Am I missing something because the only thing I see that you access with UEFI Advanced settings, is a old bios with less settings than 5 years ago LOL.

Hi,

Is there something specific you are tryinf to do?

Yes in consumer notebooks there is not really any advanced settings you can change. Different in "Buisness" computers.

Let me know,

Well I would like to be able to access my SATA, USB, PCI, among other things. Also, BIOS says UEFI but looks Legacy. I haven’t had a new laptop in a very long time, I have always just restored old ones. (I bought this just a couple months ago, but I haven’t really had time to actually sit down with it yet). Although some old UEFI laptops I have had there was “legacy support options’  but I don’t even see that here. From my understanding most new computers that run UEFI have a graphical interface and mouse option and whatnot.
I think just the fact that when I look at my bios it looks older than my laptops from like 6years ago.  Maybe these are dumb questions LOL I don’t know.

**sidenote** I was able to enable HYPER-V on Windows Home. And I build KODI boxes so I’m not a complete newb.
Just confused LOL

AS other OP said you will not find such a setting in laptop bios, although they are pretty advanced tech and capable machines, for doing what you need to do, i would suggest a desktop unit, i know it means buying another computer, but full control of a bios is what you want, then a desktop or a business side laptop unit, would work for you. i would suggest if portability is what you want, then get a business laptop , but i would call support for said company whatever one you choose and say hey is so and so setting in side the laptop bios, before purchase.

Yes, i agree with what @ytkuser says. Basically the consumer computers have no advanced settings you can acess. I believ some of the latest do not have legacy support either.

Well I’m pretty stubborn LOL, I feel like this is six months ago all over again when they told me that you can’t enable HYPER-V on windows 10 home, and that you can’t run a true MacOS ISO on windows home using Hyper-V.  A lot of hours and a lot of reading but 100% you can. And I feel it’s the same here.
Mainly I feel this way because when I called this evening to find out what my options were, I was given a whole lot of non answers that went in circles. The only two definitive answers I was given was to either pay more money and get the Business Laptop, or.... .....(you guessed it) Pay more money and take it into an HP Technician.
kind of like pay for the Pro Version of Windows If you want things like gpedit or Hyper-V or create a domain name and such.

I really appreciate everyones help and input, and who knows I might get lucky LOL if I do I’ll post it. COVID-19 give me a lot of time on my hands. 🥸
