[First off, the OS is a windows 10 home. I didn't see that option in the drop down menu.]
So, the dog knocked over a cup of milk and all over the top of my open laptop about an hour and half ago. I quickly turned it off, set it on it's side so the milk would drain out of it, and I took the battery out and cleaned and dried that up, and turned it upside down, but not a lot of milk came out.
When the battery was dry, I put it back in and turned the laptop back on, not expecting it to turn on, and it surprisingly did. And it booted up normally. There seems to be no problems with it, except for the speakers (which I rarely use), you can't hear the audio until you put a pair of headphones in the jack, and it can be heard then, but not when the headphones aren't in.
I have turned it off, shut it down and restarted it several times since the spill and it has turned on normally ever since. Most of the milk did spill on the couch, I have to admit, but I am still surprised that the computer seems to be working normally. I plan on taking it to a computer shop just to have them to check it out. I'm pretty sure they are closed tomorrow, and if they are, I do plan on going on Monday.
But I really wanna know, is how? How did it not completely shut down like a lot of computers do when something spills on it? Did I just get lucky or something? I have a history of having bad luck with computers and I have only had this one for a year and a half.

I don't know who told you that or if it is an assumption you made, but that is not a feature of any notebook or desktop PC that is currently in production.
If a liquid that can conduct electricity spills into the case of a PC or a notebook, catastrophic and usually permanent damage is a result.
You were ever so lucky.
It would not be a bad idea to take it to a shop to have it inspected and cleaned, but since it is running without issue there is no dire need to do that.
The keyboard is a sealed membrane unit and it most likely prevented the small amount of milk that was spilled from entering the notebook's enclosure.
There is, based on your description, probably dried milk in the speakers. Since you don't use the speakers much, that probably isn't a show stopper for you since you can still use external speakers or headphones of the wired or wireless variety.
