I am troubled by this 'boot device was not found' for few days, and every time when I tried to restart the computer, it was still able to work, but while I was using, it suddenly turned blue and showed that ' There is something wrong, we need to restart the computer...' and such. When seeking help online, they suggested to carry out a diagnostic test for the hard drive. However, when I tried to carry out the test, it was cancelled due to software error. What kind of software error might cause the problem? How could I fix my computer?

Greetings @Riay

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.

I understand that you are getting a "boot device not found" message and are unable to run a diagnostics test, is that right?

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.

Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.

Have you changed any hardware components on your computer?

Please disconnect any devices connected to your computer.

If you have any USB or DVD in the computer, please disconnect it.

Perform a power reset on the computer. Click here for assistance.

Disconnect the adapter, remove the battery (if it can be removed)

Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to drain the static in the computer.

Connect the adapter and battery to the computer. (if the battery was removed)

Turn the computer On and keep tapping F10 repeatedly on start you to enter BIOS/System utility.

Restore the setting to defaults.

Save and Exit.

Check if the computer boots to the desktop screen.

If the issue persists, download the service guide from this link.

Follow the procedure mentioned on page number 59 to remove the Hard drive and install it back.

Note: Please try this procedure only if you are comfortable.

Refer to this HP Article for more information.

I am not sure why you are unable to run a test on the HDD. Probably the UEFI diagnostics has gone bad or HDD is not getting detected at all.

Boot device not found error comes up when the HDD is not detected.

Keep me posted.
