Hello, I got an HP Probook 4440s second hand from a friend recently that wouldn't boot up at the time. Turns out, there's some bizzare issue with the memory slots where it won't boot if there's anything in the bottom slot at all. He said he took it apart and it wouldn't boot after that (He didn't want to fix it since he had other laptops) so that's probably when that started happening.
There's also only one working USB port. My friend said he did plug an arduino into the USB3 ports wrong and that fried them so I don't expect that to work again without replacing the board but only one USB 2.0 Port works which is weird since both of those ports are on the same BUS as far as I know. Both of them worked for him so I don't know what could be causing this. My only guess is the bluetooth on my WiFi card is using an internal USB port and it's using that instead. I doubt that's the cause but I don't know the board layout of this laptop so who knows.
Is there any possible way to fix either of these issues? I'm more looking to fix the USB port since I can use 8gb of ram single channel but it would be nice to fix that if possible.

Try to find a working parts unit on eBay i.e no screen bad HDD, etc.
The board would be at least $100 used on eBay and up to maybe $250 or a little more if you buy it from a parts house. Not really worth it in my opinion.

Here's the Service Manual:
The USB 2 ports are on a pigtail that plugs into the board see p. 38 and 97. The USB 3 ports are on the board. There is likely just physical damage to the nonworking ports. You could surely get both USB 2 ports working if you replaced the part. This model is very involved to disassemble as you can see from the Manual. Fixing USB 3's would mean a new motherboard as would fixing the memory slot. It's actually a pretty common motherboard issue for one of the memory slots to go bad.
Post back with any questions and please accept as solution if its the info you needed.

Yeah I agree with you there. The board already works and I can use 8gb single channel which is the most memory it'll accept anyway. And I don't really need more than one or two USB ports.
Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it. ^_^
