Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP G71-340US laptop that I have upgraded to Win10 64. Since that point my audio has suffered quite a bit. I get a lot of scratchy or staticky sounds, also pitch is way higher than it was on win7. It won't accept the Win7 IDT drivers, it turns off enhancement off because it causes problems. Is it possible to disable the factory IDT sound and install an aftermarket sound card? If possible which card? It's been a long time since I have had the back off of it. I don't remember if it has a separate card or not.

Maybe. There are some external USB audio products for laptops offered in the market, but not by HP .

Have you tried this W10 IDT audio driver from a newer model HP notebook?

 

If not, you may want to see if it works.  Restart the PC after installing the driver.

 

IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver

It worked for my HP 350 G1, which did not have a W10 IDT audio driver.

 

For some reason it set the headphone output as the default audio device, so after I restarted the PC, I had no sound at all.

 

All I had to do was to change the default audio output from the headphone to the PC speakers and the sound worked just like it used to in W7 and W8.1.

Thanks for your reply and suggestion. I was running 6.10.6230.0 A, so I tried 6.10.6492.0. only difference I could tell was the 6.10.6492.0 requires the volume to be set higher than in 6.10.6230.0 A. I have figured out that the Prime streaming service has the worst effects.on volume. it needs the volume to almost be at at max.  This HP used to have the best sound of all three of my laptops. Win10 runs ok on it, apparently I had to give up sound quality to run it. Thanks again, I appreciate the help.
