My fiancée has an hp pavilion x360 convertible 14-dh1xxx. Every few minutes at random the spade, backspace, and enter keyboards will stop working. Windows is fully updated. Tried reinstalling drivers for keyboard. No new software was installed so as to be the culprit. The amount of pressure applied to the keys makes no difference. Sticky keys is not enabled. Tried some forum suggestions of seeing if caps lock or airplane mode made a difference; they did not.

Thinking she’ll just need to plug in a USB keyboard and use that rather than the laptop’s one, but hoping anyone out there has some suggestions. Thank you for any help or insight you can provide.

Hi @h1etoo,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the Space, Backspace, and Enter keys on your fiancée's HP Pavilion x360 are intermittently stopping working, even after reinstalling drivers and ensuring that Windows is fully updated, there are a few more troubleshooting steps you can take to address this issue:

1. Check for Keyboard Hardware Issues

  • Inspect the Keyboard: Ensure that there are no physical obstructions or debris under the keys. You can use compressed air to clean around the keys.
  • External Keyboard: Plug in a USB keyboard to check if the issue persists with an external keyboard. This can help determine if the problem is hardware-related.

2. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers

  • Update BIOS: Outdated BIOS can sometimes cause hardware issues. Visit the HP Support website and search for BIOS updates for your specific model.
  • Update Chipset Drivers: Chipset drivers can affect keyboard functionality. Check for updates on the HP Support website or through the device manager.

3. Check Keyboard Settings

  • Language and Input Settings: Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language and ensure that the correct keyboard layout is selected.
  • Ease of Access: Go to Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard and ensure that features like Sticky Keys or Filter Keys are turned off.

4. Run Windows Troubleshooter

  • Keyboard Troubleshooter: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Keyboard, and run the troubleshooter.

5. Perform a System Scan

  • Check for Corrupt System Files: Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the following commands:This command will check for and repair any corrupt system files.
  • Check for Disk Errors: Run the following command in Command Prompt to check for disk errors:

6. Reset the Keyboard

  • Uninstall and Reinstall: In Device Manager, uninstall the keyboard device under "Keyboards", then restart the laptop to let Windows reinstall the driver automatically.

7. Test in Safe Mode

  • Boot into Safe Mode: Restart the laptop and press F8 (or Shift + F8) during boot to enter Safe Mode. Check if the issue persists in Safe Mode. If the keys work in Safe Mode, the problem may be related to third-party software.

8. Check for Software Conflicts

  • Clean Boot: Perform a clean boot to see if a third-party application is causing the issue. Follow the instructions for a clean boot from Microsoft's support site.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
