This seems like such a silly question, but where the heck is the USB port? I mean, the answer is that there isn't one. But I am not able to use my headset or mouse, which seems very odd. Why would this laptop not have a USB port?

It has one USB-A (classic square USB port) and one USB-C Thunderbolt port. That is a smaller port shaped like a small elongated oval. See pages 4 and 5 of the Service manual here:
As you are sitting at the laptop with the screen open the USB-C is on the right side and the USB-A is on the left. The USB-A is under a plastic flap.
