My USB-C power supply has developed a weird fault that seemed to appear after the most recent Windows 10 update.
I first noticed this after I'd been using my computer for a while and plugged in the charger after the battery had gotten down to around 20%.
Nothing happened. No charge light next to the port and Windows was still showing that the unit was running on battery power. Having already owned a couple of 13.3-inch units and having every one of them develop a "won't recognize the power supply fault", I was immediately terrified. Just what I needed, another aluminum paperweight with an HP logo on it.
I did a reboot and got the same response. The light never turned on, which made this a different fault than the ones I experienced on the 13.3-inch units. I switched to the secondary USB-C port and had no luck with that one, either. Next, I switched the power supply to another outlet and got my charge light back! Windows was recognizing the AC power, so I thought I was looking at a house wiring issue and not another HP issue.
I really need to stop believing in miracles. After a while of working connected to the AC, I unplugged to take the computer into a meeting. When I came back a couple of hours later, I plugged the charge cable into the charge port and got nothing. Again.
After working down the list of things to try in order to diagnose the issue, I finally discovered that if I unplugged the power cable that runs from the adapter to the actual wall socket, the computer recognized the AC power input. If I unplugged the USB-C cable from the laptop and plugged it back in, the system wouldn't recognize it until I did the disconnect/reconnect at the box. It didn't matter if I unplugged the end going into the wall or the end going into the adapter or how long I left it disconnected, I had to go through the disconnect/reconnect process if I wanted to charge the battery or work on AC power.
So far, I haven't been able to find anything that will help me figure out how to fix this issue. Right now, it's just a minor annoyance but given HP's less than stellar track record where issues like this are concerned, I'm worried this might be an early symptom of a larger potential failure if I just ignore it.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
What is the product number for your computer?
Meanwhile, I recommend you update the BIOS and the chipset driver from the below link and check if it helps.

Here is how you do it.
Step 1: Click the Windows “Start” button and right-click “Computer.”
Step 2: Click “Manage,” then “Device Manager.”
Step 3: Click the “Batteries” section. A list of devices will appear.
Step 4: Right-click the “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery” device and click “Uninstall.”
Step 5: Click the “Action” menu item and “Scan for Hardware Changes” to reinstall the driver.
Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.
