I had been using a portable monitor from Espresso Monitors for many years with my previous Spectre. I recently purchased a HP Spectre x360 Laptop 14-eu0021TU and now the monitor will not work. When I plug in the monitor the Espresso Logo displays and then the monitor instantly turns off. The laptop does not recognise the second screen.
I contacted Espresso and they feel that it is a power issue and the USB C is not providing sufficient power. It might be a BIOS issue.
Any help to get this working is appreciated.

Hi @Budda121,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your new HP Spectre x360 Laptop 14-eu0021TU is not providing sufficient power to your portable monitor from Espresso Monitors, and the monitor turns off after briefly displaying the logo, it's possible that there is indeed a power delivery issue. Here are steps to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem:
1. Check USB-C Port Capabilities
Ensure that the USB-C port you're using supports both DisplayPort Alt Mode and Power Delivery (PD). Refer to the laptop's manual or specifications on the HP website to verify this.
2. Use a Different USB-C Port
Your laptop likely has multiple USB-C ports. Try connecting the monitor to a different USB-C port to see if it resolves the issue.
3. Update BIOS/UEFI
Updating your BIOS/UEFI can sometimes resolve hardware compatibility issues, including power delivery problems.
- Update BIOS/UEFI:
- Go to the HP Support website.
- Enter your laptop model (Spectre x360 Laptop 14-eu0021TU).
- Download the latest BIOS update and follow the provided instructions to install it.
4. Update Drivers
- Update Drivers:
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand the Display adapters and Universal Serial Bus controllers sections.
- Right-click on each device and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
5. Check Power Settings
Ensure your laptop's power settings are not restricting power delivery to connected devices.
- Adjust Power Settings:
- Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings.
- Click on Change plan settings next to your selected power plan.
- Click on Change advanced power settings.
- Expand the USB settings and ensure USB selective suspend setting is disabled.
6. Use an External Power Source
- Use External Power:
- Many portable monitors have a secondary power input. Check if your monitor has this option and use it if available.
7. Use a Powered USB-C Hub
A powered USB-C hub can provide additional power to connected devices.
- Powered USB-C Hub:
- Purchase a powered USB-C hub that supports Power Delivery (PD).
- Connect your laptop to the hub, and then connect the monitor to the hub. Ensure the hub is connected to an external power source.
8. Test with Another Device
To confirm the issue is with the laptop and not the monitor or cable:
- Test with Another Device:
- Connect the portable monitor to another USB-C device that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode and Power Delivery.
- If the monitor works with the other device, the issue is likely with the laptop settings or ports.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
