Hello,

I've had nothing but problems with this Laptop since purchasing 2nd hand.  I spent some time troubleshooting why the TB2 connector wouldn't recognize an external monitor and never got that resolved.   Now the screen has completely stopped working.  It's basically a black screen with flickers which all in all leads me to think this is an issue with the onboard Intel video controller.  Since it's onboard, I'm thinking I will have to actually replace the mainboard to resolve this.

See here:

So, before I go down the main board replacement route, I wanted to ask the community if they had any experience with this issue or other thoughts on root cause/resolution?

Model:  Spectre x360 13-ae013dx

Product number:  2LU96UA

Questions:

Do you think my diagnosis as a hardware issue is correct?

Is replacing the main board the only option?

Any advice on where to get a mainboard for this unit at a reasonable cost?

Thanks in advance!

-Brandon

Hi,

In my opinion, it is the Display panel that has become defective. The official fix is really expensive as it the whole display assembly comes as one part

You might be able to find a compatible panel or panel/touch/bezel for less

Hope it helps,

David

Thanks, I'll look into the lcd panel.

However, since this laptop will not recognize an external monitor via the TB2 connector as per another thread I had opened do you still think it's LCD and not something on the mainboard?  I even purchased an HP G2 dock (2uk37ut) that is compatible with this laptop and it doesn't work...

Here is my other thread:  https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/Spectre-x360-13-ae013dx-not-detecting...

Thanks,

Brandon
