Hi,

not exactly sure when it started, but when I set the thermal profile to Quiet, the fan is almost always on, even under minimal load (open Firefox tabs). Setting it to HP Recommended, for example,. leads to a much quieter fan; it stays off even when watching YouTube or Netflix videos.

BIOS revision: F.32-06/28/2019

HP Command Center version: 1.1.55.0

"Fan always on" is off in the BIOS

It may have started after the last BIOS update, but I am not entirely sure.

Any other information you would find helpful?

Hi! @AndiDr,

To keep the laptop from overheating and damaging components on your PC the fan should keep on running.

Quiet Mode is Ideal for quiet environments. The fan turns off or runs minimally. The CPU performance is decreased. Depending on your system configuration, this mode might not be available.

However, if you hear the fan on your laptop is noisy try the steps recommended below.

Try updating BIOS and chipset drivers on the PC to the latest version using HP support assistant.

Refer this article to know more information about using the HP support assistant. Click Here

Prevent software from starting when the computer is started.
Close software programs when you are done using them.
Log off the Internet when you are not actively browsing the Internet.
If your computer gets hot when playing games, try playing the game at a lower resolution and with decreased graphics settings.

Refer this article to know more information about fan issues with the PC. Click Here

Lastly, try running a system diagnostics test on the PC and check if the hardware is functioning correctly on the PC.

Let me know if this works!

Have a great day! 🙂

Update: I managed to solve the issue by installing the latest Windows feature update and all sorts of drivers afterwards (which wouldn't install for the previous Windows version).
