HP Spectre x360 15-ap012dx

Hello all,

Recently I picked up an HP Spectre x360 Model 15-ap012dx.  It had some liquid damage and the original motherboard was toast.  I replaced the motherboard with a new one (HP Part Number:  841239-601).  I'm just starting to run some diagnostics to find out what is working.  But things are looking positive so far.

Reading through the Maintenance and Service Guide ( http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04925076 ) both mSATA and 2280 M.2 PCIe SSDs are mentioned.  I'm guessing that some motherboard models use the mSATA interface and some use the 2280 M.2 PCIe interface.  Does anyone know which interface motherboard model 841239-601 uses?

Thanks

@4fmd,

I reviewed your post and I understand that you want to know whether the SSD port on your is MSATA or PCIe.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

Based on the specifications of your computer, it looks like your computer has an MSATA port.

Refer to the below link for product specifications.

I hope that answers your question and you have a great day!

Thank you for your response, The_Fossette, I appreciate you taking the time.  However, I believe that your conclusion may be inaccurate.

If you refer to https://www.atpinc.com/blog/what-is-m.2-M-B-BM-key-socket-3 you’ll see a picture of the three drive types in question:  m.2 NVMe, m.2 SATA, and mSATA.  They are all keyed differently and the SSD that I already have in the laptop is keyed like the m.2 SATA.

I picked up an mSATA to SATA adapter recently, and the SSD from the laptop didn’t physically fit into the adapter.

This leads me to believe that the existing SSD is an m.2 SATA and not an mSATA.  So, then the question becomes will the interface on the motherboard support both m.2 NVMe drives and m.2 SATA drives?  The mentions of both types of drive in the Maintenance and Service Guide leads me to believe that this is a possibility.

I have not used these drives before, so I don’t have one I can just throw in there to see if it works.

@4fmd In my opinion its best to contact a local tech to check the slots for compatible parts before investing in it as, I'm afraid HP does not recommend upgrades or hardware changes as the device is equipped with parts that perform at its optimal performance by design, that said, the upgradeable parts listed by HP articles are purely for your ease, as the decision to upgrade will be at your own discretion.

Considering the above statement, our information regarding the slots are limited to the maintenance guide you've attached, there's nothing else we can add to it, hence my suggestion to contact a tech who could help you with the same, just to be on a safer side.

I hope that answers your query,
