HP Spectre 15-eb0000 x360 Convertible Laptop PC RCTO Base Model
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi there, I have a two year old spectre x360 15, and the touchpad is popping out of the case.  I have taken it apart and confirmed that the battery is swollen right under the touchpad, and when the case isn't installed, the touchpad is flat.

I wanted to order a new battery, but HP is not being helpful in anyway and doesn't seem to offer the battery for sale.  The only place I see this battery for sale is on Amazon and only from no name vendors with 0 reviews, so I'd prefer to spend a little more and get it from somebody reputable, but there just doesn't appear to be any options, which I why I'm trying to get it from HP.

When I saw a post regarding this issue, they said that even though the unit is out of warranty, this issue may be covered, and it allowed me to log a case for it with my s/n and product number  including a picture of the issue.  I logged the case, and I just got a notification that the case was closed today with absolutely no comments or status about it's outcome.  There is a note saying that if parts were ordered, this is a notification that they're coming, but it doesn't say if parts are ordered.

So now I don't know if I should be waiting for a new battery to come from HP or whether I should roll the dice and order one from some random guy on Amazon.

This was a $2200 notebook which is still pristine, it's awful that it may become useless because I can't replace the battery.

PS, if anybody here has access, the case number is [Personal Information Removed].

Hi @RichSNJ

Currently, HP is only replacing the main battery in laptops under warranty for free.

There is nothing wrong with  using a battery sold in Amazon that has the HP part number on it. Choose one with a one year warranty.

The specification and HP part number:   Battery (6 cell, 72 WHr, 3.16 AHr, Li-ion; includes cable)    HP p/n L68299-005

When you do not identify your notebook with a product number, you tie our hands behind our backs.

When logged into Windows, hold down the Windows key and tap the R key.

Type in msinfo32 and press enter.

The ninth line is the SKU and the HP product number. Kindly post it in your next reply in your thread.

An alternative method:

Take a look at the bottom of the notebook among the tiny letters and locate the ProdID.

The ProdID will enable us to determine the hardware configuration of your notebook.

It would help if you provided the product number.

Well, I ordered the battery off of Amazon, put it in, and the notebook is completely fried now.  Won't power on, no charging light.  Exactly why I wanted to get a battery from HP.  It's disgusting that HP won't sell a battery for a less than 2 year old notebook.

I loved this laptop, and I just went to look for a new one, and they don't make it anymore, and neither the new 14 or 16 inch versions have keypads anymore.  So disappointed.  Jus as well, I guess I'm done with HP anyway.

Based on your description there was an issue on the notebook's system board in the power management/charging circuit.

The same thing would have happened with a battery sold by HP.

I have the exact same problem except mine is so bad, my entire bottom case is split and will not seal. My laptop won't power on unless plugged in. I spent $2500 2 years ago. I've been through a hard drive already and 2 external monitors. I've invested in a $500 HP Thunderbolt Hub that I bought from Amazon that HP refused to honor the date that I purchased it on for warranty.  I was forced to use the date the vendor bought it from HP which cheated me out of most of my warranty. I've ordered an aftermarket battery from Amazon and it will be here tomorrow. If I lose my laptop, which is my bread and butter, I will come unglued. I don't have $2500 to go buy another one. I'm just starting a business and I've poured every dime I've had into getting it started. I can't even buy new tires for my car. I'm forced to drive on bald tires in FL and rainy season just started. Because of the terrible products and customer service from HP I have received the past 18 months, I can assure you, this will be the last HP product I ever purchase.

I was actually hoping to buy a new version of the Spectre, but they only make a 14 and a 16 inch now, and neither of them have a numeric keypad, which I need, so I found a HP refurbed one exactly like mine on Amazon and I got it.

I also sent my dead one in to a place in California which has a lot of experience fixing the exact no power issue on Spectre x360's, they have several youtube videos about the issue and claim that it happens all the time with these Spectres 😞

I too would like to stop using HP, but this is the abosolute best all around notebook I've ever had and I don't like anything else right now.  If they can fix my broken one, I'll give that to my wife and use it as a backup, as I run my business on this one too, and having a backup when we're travelling is always good.

Right now I'm in Sri Lanka for a long trip and mine battery is swollen as well. The warranty is expired, but did I understand correctly that it's a coverage from HP beyond warranty period?
There is absolutely no problem with buying a battery I need, even if warranty is expired. However, I do not see any on Sri Lanka being sold, any shippable to sri lanka or at least my country (ukraine) from ebay or aliexpress, allegro or amazon.
Can I be pointed in the right direction who do I contact if I'm HP customer from SriLanka and need help? I hope the case itself doesn't crack, whilst the touchpad's upper part  is sticking out maybe like 1.5mm now.

Please assist.
