Spectre x360 15t-bl000 CTO

Hello all, 

 

I have an out-of-warranty Spectre x360 (X5P15AV, 15t-bl000 CTO). Several groupings of keys on the keyboard have just stopped working, leading me to believe there's a problem with some of the internal connections. The keys are: 1234, 7890, zxcv, m,./, Spacebar, L-ALT, L-SHIFT, END, down arrow key, and right arrow key. The failure code when I run the HP Diagnostics program is something like 9CW3SJ-8L89KA-MFPUQJ-G06R03. Is it likely that I need to replace the keyboard entirely, or is this possibly fixable by realigning the contacts?

 

During the process of running diagnostics, I also learned that one of my 16GB memory modules is bad: error code 9CW3SJ-8L89KA-MFPUQJ-407H03. Since the OS will still load, I assume it's only one of them that's gone bad, but I'm not sure.

 

The memory modules are not the default options listed in the manual (replacement parts 862397-857 or 862398-857), but are 16GB DDR4 modules made by Teamgroup (TEAMGROUP-SD4-2133). 

 

Would it be better for me to send the whole laptop in for repair or do the replacements manually? The replacement keyboard is purchaseable from the HP spare parts store, and I can find a compatible memory module on eBay. I'm probably savvy enough to do the repair myself; the main reason I'd want to fix it myself is to avoid downtime since I need the laptop for work. I'm also wondering about the possible price points for replacement of one vs. both memory modules, as well as for the keyboard replacement, so I can compare to the prices of the parts I'd be buying to fix it myself.

@mjacksonhill I'm glad the hardware test was done and the failure ID you've mentioned represents the failure Code - 800 - Keyboard error and the failure ID for the memory represents the failure code - 200 - Memory Module Failure (no DIMM id), in other words, the best and only way of getting both these issues resolved is by contacting HP support to repair/replace these parts, I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options:

follow the below steps to get started:

 

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on "Continue as guest".

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

 

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!
