HP Spectre x360 - 13t-aw000 CTO
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

As of 09/06/2024 I’m experiencing an issue with my HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13t-aw000. The laptop is no longer charging with the charger that came with it. I’ve confirmed that the charger itself charges other devices, and other chargers which formerly were capable of charging my laptop no longer can, so I believe the problem may be the laptop’s motherboard hardware.

This other user seems to have experienced issues: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Spectre-x360-won-t-turn-on-...

I have tried many of the simplest first resolution steps (e.g. hard power reset by pressing and holding the power button for 15-45 seconds) to no avail. No recent major software or hardware changes have occurred.

Any advice, solutions, or suggested next steps (e.g. contacting a HP authorized repair location) would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi @BenPerez87,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with your Laptop battery that is not charging.

Follow the below steps to perform the battery Test.

1) Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

2) Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu is displayed, press the f2 key.

3) On the main menu, click Component Tests.

4) On the Component Tests menu, click Power, Battery, and then click Run once. The battery Test begins.

If the battery test fail, there is an issue with the battery and needs to be replaced.

If the battery test pass, update the BIOS for your PC by clicking on the link.

Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.

Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.

Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

I was able to run the battery test you describe, and it passed. I then went to start updating the BIOS, but in the meantime the battery had run out entirely. As such, I can no longer boot up the laptop, as it's not powering at all from the charger.

That said, I believe I had updated the BIOS earlier this year, so I'm doubtful that would resolve my issue.

Finally, I'm not finding anything in the support pages you linked to that would give me next steps on how to troubleshoot. How can I test to see what hardware in the laptop is faulty? I suppose my next step is to remove the back cover and see if all connections are seated well, as the user in the post I linked to did.
