Hi:

Since your model comes with an AMD Ryzen™ 5 3500U processor, the M.2 slot does support NVMe SSD's so the Samsung 980 NVMe SSD should work just fine.

Thank you,

is there is any problem with compatibility then i heard it will effect the speed. Is samsung 980 ssd is fully compatible to hp 15-db 1061au?

HP Recommended

You're very welcome.

If I was in the market for a NVMe SSD, the Samsung 980 would be my choice.

Will it reach the maximum advertised sequential read speed of 3500 MBPS?

That I do not know.

It depends if the M.2 slot allows all 4 PCIe lanes or just 2.

There are no posts that I could find where anyone has reported the speed of NVMe SSD's in that model series.

That would have nothing to do with the drive's compatibility.

Compatibility would be the M.2 slot.

Does it support SATA only?  Does it support NVMe only, or does it support both?

Yours supports both.

Worst case scenario is the drive works at half its rated speed which is still around 3x faster than SATA.

Can you please cross check this and samsung 980 have same compatible spec/deatil.

Thanks a lot.

Hi:

The specs on the HP EX900 are about half what the Samsung 980 is.

Amazon.com: HP EX900 M.2 120GB PCIe 3.0 X4 Nvme 3D TLC NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) 2Yy42Aa...

Sequential read/write speeds up to 1,900 Mbps/1,500 Mbps

Samsung 980 500 GB:  Much faster.

Sequential read/write speeds up to 3,500/3,000 MB/s

What you can do is this...install this free software and see what the max sequential read/write speed of your HP EX900 is.

Crystal DiskMark 8.0.4 Download (guru3d.com)

It is comes out close to the 1,900 read/1500 write, then the Samsung 980 should also reach its max advertised speeds.

Here is a report from my Dell Optiplex 7050 MT desktop which has a Crucial P5 500 GB SSD installed.

The specs on the Crucial drive are:  Sequential Read - 3400 MB/s,  Sequential Write - 3000 MB/s

The top line is the one that provides the max speeds, which should be close to the advertised speeds.

As you can see, the report comes pretty close to the max advertised Read/Write speeds of what Crucial indicates.

This means the drive is using all 4 PCIe lanes of the M.2 slot.

Did you run the utility from the link I posted for you?

If the HP drive got the full speed on the top line of the report, either of the Samsung drives should as well.

That is the only way you are going to know.

The Samsung 970 Evo + is an older drive, but it has slightly faster write speeds than the 980.

It may run a little bit hotter than the 980 because it is older technology and because of the faster write speeds.

The generation of both is the same 3.0.

Writing Speed is very slow

Will i get full speed on Samsung 980?

HP Recommended

Yes, the write speed is slow on that report, but the read speed of 1600 MBPS is close to the max, so the drive must be using all 4 PCIe lanes.

If it was only using two of the four lanes, the write speed would have been around 950 MBPS max.

Unfortunately, I have no idea why the write speed is nowhere close to the 1,500 MBPS max, the drive was supposed to have.
