Hello,
I'm pretty upset. When turning on my laptop (HP Omen 15-ax202na) today I was greeted with the message below along with my fans being maxed out which they never even do when gaming.
"The system bios has detected your notebook PC was placed in hibernation to avoid overheating .
The system is now operating normally and your data should remain intact.
Overheating may occur if the cooling vents are blocked or the operating temperature exceed the specification. The notebook PC should return to normal operation once the situation is resolved.
System Temperature (90D)"
I find this strange as my laptop was operating normally the last time I turned it off and I always monitor my temperatues in games using afterburner, never seeing higher than 70 degrees celius and its rarely that high, on average its 50-60 degree celcius when gaming. Same with the CPU. I also noticed that my GPU was also no longer being detected and instead an 'unknow device' and Nvidia drivers fail to install too.
I decided to open the laptop (doesn't void warranty on this model) and blow some compressed air through the fans but that has made zero difference and they weren't particually dirty any way.
Upon further inspection I've noticed that the laptop thinks its overall temperature is 75 degree celius (in HWMonitor by CPUID) the entire time and will not change, even after being shutfown for an hour, however the CPU and HDD are 30 degrees celcius and 23 degrees celcius and do change. For example I can leave it off for 'x' amount of time but the second I turn it on it thinks it 75 degrees C.
Things I have tried are,
- Cleaning fans (wasn't that dirty)
- Resetting laptop to factory settings
- Updating Bios
- Disconnecting battery and holding power button for 30 plus seconds
and nothing changes, still I have no GPU detected, still I have the Error 90D on startup and still my fans are maxed out.
I'm really stuck as to what it wrong. I hadn't changed anything on my laptop in a long time. Its mainly for games and its only just over a year old. I should also add that my laptop never moves from my desk.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thank you.
PS. My warranty says 1y1y0y so does that mean HP will still repair it so long as it doesn't need any extra parts seeing as I have had it just over 1 year now?
Thank you for your time.

Who said that ?

Your machine has 1y warrnrty, that means your machine is out of warranty now.
Update BIOS may help. There is new BIOS dated Mar 9, 2018 on the following link:

Thanks for the reply butI have already tried that, I did mention.
As for the warranty https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/OMEN-15-Opening-the-laptop-wha...
I should mention I have never opened it before or altered it in any way.

Well, I ALWAYS, yes ALWAYS say warranty in a grey/gray area. You can open ANYTHING but when no problem then no problem. You only know the problem when sending machine for repair.
Regards.

Thanks again for the responses.
I guess thats true with the warranty but it was out of warranty when I opened it anyway so not really an issue. Something to note for future though.
I'm really stumped as to the problem and right now basically have an exspensive paper weight without GPU.
-GPU undetected and displayed as unknown device then when uninstalled in device manager it doesn't come back on a restart or when trying to add manually and have to reset windows to factory setting to make it appear as unknown device again.
-Error 90D [overheating, ]Motherboard temperatue is at a constant 75 degrees celcius (I believe this is a false reading) and thus fans maxed out.
I thought it may be a software issue but I've reset windows a couple of times and updated everything I can from hp omen driver page, bios, chipset etc.
Nothing worked so leads me to think that there is maybe a hardware fault, like a bad connection with heatsink and gpu however its only 1 year 2months old (looks new) and surely the GPU would still be visible in device manager if it were a connection to heatsink issue? I did check the screws and they are all tight. I'm capable of replacing thermal paste myself (as out of warranty) but reluctant to do so as I'm not convinced its the issue.
I do recall the last GPU temp I had when it was working the day before this problem and it was normal.
It also never moves from my desk so eliminates possible damage from bumps or drops.
Maybe I'll have to consider sending it to HP for repairs if the cost isn't crazy.
PS> Does anyone know where the motherboard thermostat is if even visible? (HP Omen 15-ax202na)
