I recently spilled a soft drink on my HP Envy x360 2-in-1 Laptop . Fortunately, the laptop was unharmed, but my keyboard keys are quite sticky. It has just gotten worse somehow and can take up to 5 seconds for the key to pop back up. Does this have a solution? Can I remove the keys and clean it without ruining the laptop?

Hi @SAmim2,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Spilling a soft drink on your laptop can indeed lead to sticky keys, but there are steps you can take to clean the keyboard without damaging your HP Envy x360. Here’s a detailed guide on how to do this.
Turn Off and Unplug Your Laptop
- Safety First: Ensure your laptop is powered off and unplugged from any power source. If possible, remove the battery.
Removing Keycaps (if applicable)
- Gentle Removal: For some laptops, you can gently pry off the keycaps with a plastic spudger or your fingernails. Start from the edge of the key and work your way to the center. Be cautious, as the mechanism may be delicate.
- Keys That Don’t Remove: If the keys are part of a non-removable section, skip this step and focus on cleaning around them.
Cleaning the Keyboard
- Use a Soft Cloth: Dampen a microfiber cloth with a mixture of isopropyl alcohol (at least 70% concentration) and water. Avoid using too much liquid.
- Wipe Down: Carefully wipe the area around the keys. If the keycaps are removed, clean underneath with a cotton swab dipped in the solution.
- Compressed Air: Use a can of compressed air to blow out any debris that may be trapped under the keys. This can also help dry out any remaining moisture.
Reattaching Keycaps
- If you removed the keycaps, align them correctly and press them back into place until they click.
Let It Dry
- Air Dry: Leave the laptop in a well-ventilated area for several hours (or overnight) to ensure it dries completely. Avoid using a hairdryer as the heat may damage components.
Test the Keys
- Once everything is dry, power on the laptop and test the keys to see if they are functioning properly.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
