Please I am using hp notebook, NX 8220,

Windows xp professional.

Can I still upgrade to Windows 10 or recent modern windows and which browser is suitable and safe for my computer?

Most likely, NO.

 

The oldest Windows version that provides an Upgrade Path (where you change the OS but retain your data, settings, and applications) is Win7.  There is no such path from anything prior to that.  Also, no free upgrade, either.

 

Additionally, your hardware is too old to have working Win10 drivers, so if you force the install of Win10, not only will you lose everything on your laptop in the process, there is a very good possibility that it simply will then not work -- due to lack of drivers.
