Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
The “UNEXPECTED STORE EXCEPTION (0x154)” error typically points to issues with your storage drive, drivers, or system files. To resolve it, start by checking your disk health, updating drivers, and disabling fast startup.
I’m really sorry this is interrupting your work—it’s jarring when your system suddenly shuts down mid-task. Let’s walk through a few steps to help stabilize your system and prevent future crashes.
Step 1: Check Disk Health and File System
Corruption or failing sectors can trigger this error.
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
- Type:chkdsk /f /r
- Press Enter and type Y when prompted to schedule the scan.
- Restart your PC to allow the scan to run.
Step 2: Run System File Checker
This repairs damaged Windows system files.
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
- Type:sfc /scannow
- Let the scan complete and follow any instructions if issues are found.
Step 3: Disable Fast Startup
Fast Startup can interfere with disk operations.
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup.
- Click Save changes.
Step 4: Update Storage and Chipset Drivers
Outdated drivers can cause kernel-level exceptions.
- Visit: HP Drivers for Your Device
- Enter your product number: X7S46UA#ABA.
- Download and install the latest Storage, Chipset, and BIOS updates.
Step 5: Check for SSD or HDD Issues
If you’re using an SSD, firmware updates may help.
- Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI:
- Restart and press Esc, then F2.
- Run the Storage Test (Extended).
- If errors are found, note the failure ID.

Step 6: Remove Third-Party Antivirus (Temporarily)
Some antivirus programs interfere with disk access.
- Uninstall any third-party antivirus software.
- Restart and observe if the issue persists.
Let me know how these steps go. If the error continues, we can explore deeper options like event log analysis or clean boot troubleshooting. I’m here to help you get back to a stable, reliable experience.
