HP Pavilion x360 - 14-ba064tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello again,

I have questions regarding upgrading storage by adding an M.2 SSD by Crucial (NVME, PCI-e).

Can I add a 1 TB SSD to my laptop?

I still have my 1 TB HDD intact.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06172090

From the blueprint of this laptop is says that "1-TB, 5400-rpm, 7.2-mm hard drive with 128-GB solid-state drive with TLC".

Hi:

That is correct.

The first one will not work.

The second one will.

There is no difference between the M.2 SSD 2/5" drive speed and the M.2 SATA drive speed.

If you compare the sequential read/write speeds of the 2.5" counterpart of the M.2 SATA drive, they are the same.

Take for example, this 500 GB WD Blue model (which provides the best performance for the price, IMHO)...

2.5" 500 GB:

Amazon.com: Western Digital 500GB WD Blue 3D NAND Internal PC SSD - SATA III 6 Gb/s, 2.5"/7mm, Up to...

500 GB M.2:

Amazon.com: Western Digital 500GB WD Blue 3D NAND Internal PC SSD - SATA III 6 Gb/s, M.2 2280, Up to...

As you can see, the 560 MB/530 MB sequential read/write speeds are exactly the same.

Hi:

According to chapter 1 of the service manual, you have a couple of options...

Maintenance and Service Guide HP Pavilion x360 14m Convertible PCIMPORTANT! This document is intende...

1.  You can replace the existing 2.5" drive with a 2.5" SATA SSD.

2. You can buy a M.2 SATA SSD, not NVMe, according to the manual.

If you go with option 2, then you would need to remove Windows from the 2.5" drive, or the notebook would always want to boot from that drive first.

Then you can use the 2.5" drive for storage.

So just to confirm.

Something like this:

Samsung 980 Pro PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD would not work.

But this Silicon Power 1TB M.2 2280 SATA III Internal works right?

Which choice will be faster? (2.5 Sata or M.2 Sata)
Does running both storage slows the laptop?
