Microsoft Windows 11

Dear community members, I just bought a HP 17-cn2033ng laptop which comes with a 256 gb m.2 ssd.

I would love to upgrade the storage with at least 1 tb. I thought I could just stick in a second m.2 ssd, however, I think there is just one slot (which is used for the 256gb ssd).

Would you suggest installing a 2,5" ssd although I do have neither the ssd cable nor the ssd cage or buying a new m.2 ssd with more capacity?

Does anybody know which cable/ cage I would need for the 2,5" ssd?

Is it possible to clone the 256gb m.2 ssd onto the new one, so that I don't have to install windows again?

I am looking forward for your replies!

Thank you!

Hi:

HP only has the service manual for the older model series available.

Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)

There is only one slot for a M.2 SSD

The only available part would be the 2.5" drive cable listed in chapter 3 of the manual.

If you want to install a larger capacity NVMe SSD, you can buy a USB 3/USB-C to NVMe SSD adapter to clone the 256 GB drive to the 1 TB NVMe drive but you will also need to have a cloning program that will clone a smaller drive to a larger one and not leave a bunch of unallocated space.

Something like this...

INDMEM M.2 NVMe Enclosure, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C M.2 NGFF Adapter, Aluminium Case Tool-Free for M-Key...

Its specs

It has  256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD. It does not have second M.2 SSD.  I would use 1TB or 2TB M.2 NVMe SSD rather than add 2.5" SATA HDD/SSD because you need to find more parts specially the HDD cable.

Regards.
