Hi
I've been hearing a strange noise from my laptop recently. It seems to be coming from the rear-right corner, where the power supply connects. It's quite quiet, and sounds like a cross between a 1990's modem and an old HDD working hard. When I disconnect the power supply, the sound stops for a few seconds, and then starts again. I thought I'd fixed it when I updated my BIOS earlier, and rebooted... but then a few minutes later the sound returned.
Any thoughts? I'm loathe to return it to HP, as I need my lappy... also I've upgraded the HDD to 2x SSDs, so I guess I'd have to put it back into its original config first.
I was also looking for a replacement PSU in case that was the issue, but am struggling to find one. The label says replace with HP Spare 77620-001, but I can't find one on the HP site!
Using Win10 x64, all drivers etc up to date, no damage, no particular software change that I know of.
All input gratefully received...
Charlie

Hi Barachiel
Thank you very much for your kind and helpful message!
I've followed your instructions, and after re-installing all the chipset drivers, the issue seems to have stopped. Hooray! Out of curiosity, are you able to give us a clue what the isse was and why this solution worked?
Many thanks again
