Hi there, I just made this account since I cannot find an answer to my problem anywhere.
I have the x360 m6 convertible laptop that I purchased from Best Buy a little over a year ago. Since then I've had the same issue:
When I boot it up or wake from sleep, it is usually stuck in tablet mode (8 out of 10 times). The mouse cursor doesn't work and neither does the keyboard. The only thing I've found to make it switch to regular mode is moving the convertible screen back and forth a few times - basically flipping it to a tablet and then quickly flipping it back to normal.
I've contacted HP but I don't feel comfortable sending it in for repairs.
Under settings, I can't find any toggle to disable tablet mode. I'm turned on the option on startup to be in PC mode.
How does the computer know what mode to be in? I always have the laptop on a table or on my lap and I never use it as a tablet. It seems like that's what's a little wonky. I like this computer. It was expensive, yes, but it works well and this is the only problem I've been having with it.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the HP Forums!
This is a wonderful place to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips.
I reviewed your post and understand that the computer is getting stuck in the tablet mode when you restart the computer or when you wake it up from sleep.
I'll be glad to help you 🙂
In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.
- When was the last time the computer was working fine?
- Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
- Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?
Meanwhile, I recommend you update your display drivers and check if the issue persists.
Here is how it is done.
- Press Windows + R on the Keyboard.
- Type in devmgmt.msc and click on Ok.
- Select the Graphic driver from the list by extending Display adapters.
- Right click on the Graphic driver and click on Update driver Software.
If you continue to face the issue, follow the below steps.
Settings --> System --> Tablet Mode and changed it to "go to the desktop"
Let me know how it goes. Awaiting your reply!
If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accept as Solution. Your feedback counts!
Good day! Take care 🙂
Cheers!

Thanks for your response. To answer your questions:
- When I bought the laptop it worked fine and I remember this problem starting not long after I bought it.
- I have not made any changes to anything.
- Before posting, I reset the laptop back to factory settings, or reformatted it. I called HP customer service and tried a few things but none of them worked. I'm sorry I don't remember exactly what I was told to do to try to fix it.
My display driver is up to date.
When I go to the tablet tab in settings, there is a drop-down menu for "When I sign in" and I have that set to desktop mode. The other one below it is a drop-down for "When this device automatically switches tablet mode on or off" and I have that set to don't ask and don't switch.
Is there any way to just disable tablet mode all together?
Thanks again.

Thank you for the information.
I recommend you try the below steps and check if it helps.
Select action center on the taskbar (next to the date and time), and then select Tablet mode to turn it on or off.
If you continue to face the issue I recommend you contact HP phone support as it may be an issue with the sensor.
Here is how you can get in touch with the phone support.
- Click on this link – www.hp.com/contacthp/
- Click on “Continue as guest”.
- Enter the serial of your device.
- Select the country from the drop-down.
- Click on “Show Options”.
- Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accept as Solution.
Cheers!

Tablet mode in turned off in the action center. I figured there was an issue with the sensor since rotating the screen gets it out of tablet mode when it's stuck, but I feel like I shouldn't have to do that each time I start up.
I have called HP customer support and they wanted me to send the laptop in for repairs. I don't feel comfortable doing that and I also cannot go without it for a week (school/work purposes).

Thank you for keeping me posted.
It looks like a hardware issue and the sensor need to be replaced. You can send the computer for repair whenever it is convenient for you.
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you.
