My laptop is shuting down suddenly. Firstly, I thought that it could be coz of the MS outage. Anyhow, its still happening. It shuts down at 40% , thats when my battery saver starts. SO i turned it off to see if its triggering smth, but the laptop still shut down. Usually, if its a low battery issue, my laptop say "locking" and then shut down, not this time tho. Just turns off abruptly without saying anything. And then doesnt turn on without plugging it in. The battery is new. And its not an overheating issue too. Just updated my BIOS yesterday but still is happening. and i get a window saying smth about BIOS too and coming to hp startup to ask for help. What do i do?

Hi @abluff,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP 15s laptop is experiencing power-related issues, which can be tricky to diagnose. Since you've already tried updating the BIOS and ruled out overheating, here are a few more steps you can take to identify and possibly fix the problem:
1. Check Battery Health
- Battery Report: Generate a battery report to check the health of your battery.
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator.Type powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter.
- Navigate to the folder where the report is saved (typically C:\Users\[Your Username]).
- Open the battery-report.html file in a web browser to review the battery health and cycle count.
- If the battery health is poor despite being new, it might be a defective battery.
2. Check Power Settings
- Advanced Power Settings:
- Open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.Click on Change plan settings next to your selected power plan.
- Click on Change advanced power settings.Expand Battery and check the settings for Critical battery action and Critical battery level. Make sure they are set correctly and not causing the abrupt shutdown.
3. Run HP Diagnostics
- HP Hardware Diagnostics:
- Turn off the laptop.Press the power button and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
- Press F2 to open the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu.Run the System Tests, particularly the Battery Test and Power Test.
4. Check for BIOS Messages
- Pay close attention to the BIOS message you receive at startup. It could provide clues about the power issue.
- If the message persists, take a screenshot or note down the exact wording and any error codes.
5. Perform a System Reset
- Reset the System:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.
- Select Reset this PC and follow the prompts. Choose to keep your files if you don't want to lose personal data.
6. Check for Firmware Updates
- Use HP Support Assistant to check for any additional updates beyond the BIOS.
7. Disable Fast Startup
- Disable Fast Startup:
- Open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.Click on Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.Uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended) and save the changes.
8. Test Without Battery
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
