Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

 Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to help me figure this out.

I have the same issue as teamgato and ChasDr.

The laptop doesn't sit level and the screen won't close all the way, so I'm thinking the battery is definitely swollen.  My computer is 2 months out of the Costco warranty extension.

Is this the correct replacement part number "HP battery 789116-005"?

Should I stick with HP brand battery or get an off brand one? If off brand, what do you suggest and why?

Since this battery issue seems to be a pattern, I too feel that HP ought to cover it even out of warranty. However, given the difficulty I have had contacting them, I'm not too hopeful.

Thanks again.

This was previously posted by ChasDr about a year ago and it perfectly describes my situation.  I feel my battery should be covered under this recall and replaced.   Please help me do this quickly. Thanks!

HP ENVY x360 Convertible 13t-y000 Battery Swollen but Battery Validation Utility says OK - Do what?

Product: HP ENVY x360 Convertible 13-y0XX
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP ENVY battery is obviously swollen in the center of the bottom.  When placed on a flat surface, it rocks rather than resting on the rubber footpads at the four corners.  My ENVY was purchased 5/6/2017 and is out of warranty  for HP (1y1y0y) and Costco 2yr.   There is an major recall program for swollen HP batteries.   And  "HP is providing battery replacement services by an authorized technician at no cost"  for listed batteries. The HP Battery Validation Utility says my battery is "not affected by the HP recall program.  A replacement is not necessary.  You may continue to use your battery,"  Why is my battery not on the recall list?   Can anything be done to escalate HP support to get it onto the recall list?

I am very doubtful that continued use of the fat battery is really safe.   What HP points of contact should I pursue for swollen battery list expansion and out of warranty repair availability & cost?"

Additionally to what was previously reported, I now also have a problem in closing my computer as the swelling is also pushing up on the middle of my keyboard; thus the swelling is noted as a bulge both on top and bottom.  -teamgato

@wave-watcherNW -- I suggest that you contact HP, to see if they have other customers with the same symptom, and to ask if they have any "secret warranty extension" or "battery recall program" for your model of battery.

Hi @ Itsmyname. Thanks for the suggestion to get in touch with HP. Since my computer is out of warranty, do you have any suggestions about how I could contact them?

The virtual chatbot was unhelpful and the report a swollen battery page still gets stuck after it has collected all your info but before it actually connects you to anyone. It appears this has been an issue for a while.

Thanks again.

It is possible that there is a "public" warranty, for 99.99% of the warranty-claims, and, as I wrote, a "secret warranty" (maybe linked to a "product-recall") for situations like yours.

HP Support may require a fee, before listening to your case, and may cancel the fee, if they determine that this specific battery is known to have this problem.
