HP Spectre x360 - 15-df1017no
Microsoft Windows 11

Some days ago it was time for the problems again.
Upgrading from W11 24H2 to newer W11

The issues make the "Windows Hello" functions non avaiable, så no facial logon, no fingerprint logon.

In the device manager i have som yellow signs for:

1. Synaptics WBDI Fingerprint Reader - USB 102(SGX)

2. Detection verification

3. "HID comatible unit" (two of four)

I cannot for the love of god find drivers from HP to get it running.

I will see wich drivers Snappy Driver can suggest.

Feel free to comment on this topic if you have same or similar problem. I have fixed them before but thats som time since last. When i can tell exactly what to to i promise to make a step by step guide for this.

Good machine in many ways, but it also get very hot, so hot that the glue holding the rubber stripes got loose ( that thing did HP help me with...posted two new long rubber strips to put under.

@pekkaplanet, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing issues with your Synaptics WBDI Fingerprint Reader and Windows Hello functions after a Windows 11 update on your HP Spectre x360 - 15-df1017no. It's frustrating when these features stop working, especially after an OS upgrade.

Let's work through this to get your fingerprint reader and Windows Hello back up and running. The yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager clearly indicate a driver issue.

Here's a step-by-step approach to resolve this, focusing on official HP drivers and Windows troubleshooting:
Step 1: Download the Latest Fingerprint Driver

HP has provided a compatible driver for the Synaptics WBDI Fingerprint Reader:

  • Driver Name: Synaptics Secure Pad Integrated Fingerprint Sensor Driver
  • Version: 6.0.60.1111
  • Direct Download: sp138587.exe (HP FTP)

After downloading, right-click the installer and choose Run as Administrator.

Step 2: Clean Up Device Manager

  1. Press Win + X → Device Manager.
  2. Expand Biometric Devices, Human Interface Devices, and Other Devices.
  3. Right-click and Uninstall any devices with yellow warning signs (including the Synaptics WBDI, Detection Verification, and HID-compliant units).
  4. Check the box "Delete the driver software for this device" if prompted.
  5. Reboot your PC.

Step 3: Reinstall the Driver

After rebooting, install the downloaded driver again and reboot once more.

Step 4: Check Windows Hello

  1. Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
  2. Under Fingerprint Recognition (Windows Hello), try setting it up again.

Additional Tips:

  • Optional Updates: Go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates and install any available driver updates.
  • HP Drivers Page: You can also check for other updated drivers here: Official HP® Support

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!

, thx for taking time with this. After removing old drivers that are installed, i try to run the file you told me to DL, when expanded i go to that folder, runs the .exe installer, nothing happens, then try to look in the "install.cmd" file with notepad. I can see there that it will maybe work with a 4 year older w11 OS. Its a line where it looks for if the installed W11 is of version  compares the installed version to compare it is valid

REM ================== Check if OS is 20H2 (10.0.19042) ==================
ECHO [%date%][%time%][%~dpnx0] Check if OS version has met requirement >> %Logpath%
IF /I [%os_ver%] GEQ [10.0.19042] echo [%date%][%time%][%~dpnx0] OS version match. >> %Logpath% & goto Install_DRV

So nope, this is not the solution 😞

@pekkaplanet, Thanks for the detailed follow-up!

Here's a workaround that should help:

Option 1: Manually Install the Driver via Device Manager

Even if the installer fails, the driver files are extracted and can be installed manually:

Extract the driver package:

  • Run sp138587.exe once to extract the files (usually to C:\SWSetup\SP138587).

Open Device Manager:

  • Press Win + X → Device Manager.
  • Locate Synaptics WBDI Fingerprint Reader under Biometric Devices or Other Devices.

Update Driver Manually:

  • Right-click the device → Update driver.
  • Choose Browse my computer for drivers.
  • Point it to:
    C:\SWSetup\SP138587\WBDI_SGX\x64
  • Click Next and let it install.

Reboot your system and check Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options for Windows Hello.

Option 2: Use a Modified INF (Advanced)

If the above fails, I can help you modify the .INF file to bypass the OS version check and repackage it for installation. Let me know if you'd like to go that route.

Option 3: Use Windows Update Catalog

Sometimes newer drivers are available via the Microsoft Update Catalog. Search for:

Synaptics WBDI USB 102 SGX Windows 11

You can manually download and install a newer .CAB file if available.

I hope this helps!

So i did try, it didnt work out. It all ended up with clean install of fresh W11 24H2, windowsupdate was able to get almost everything if you choose "advanced settings" and then "optional updates", and then choose all drivers there are to be found there.
That leave me with just one warning for missing a driver for "smart detection device"

---info---

{DD8E82AE-334B-49A2-AEAE-AEB0FD5C40DD}\DetectionVerification

That one is not to be found on windowsupdate, nor in HP driver download page.

Finaly i got to use "snappy driver installer" and choosed only the one that was missing.

So this above help you out with the missing driver for "Intel Smart Sound Technolgy Detection"

I can see that HP wont support this product fully, if so i should will be able to find it on their page for downloading drivers, there is not even a selection to choose W11 as OS there, only W10.

If someone have problem with the drivers i can make an export of all drivers, zip the folder and make it avaible to download it.

Its the quickest way for you if you make a clean install, directly efter the installation is done and you´re back on your desktop

Then open up "device manager" and then click somewhere in top of that you have drivers on a location (folder) and let it work for some minutes...then when its done you have working drivers for all your stuff at once.

If someone feel that this would make things more easy you, say it here and i fix this!
