Synaptics interface vanished after HP BIOS update; can't adjust touchpad settings anymore

I just allowed an HP BIOS update for the first time since late last year, and when the update was complete and the laptop rebooted, I found there was no longer an interface for the Synaptics touchpad (see first screenshot below; it's not mine, but one I found on the internet). This means I can't adjust the touchpad settings as I had been able to until this update.

What I'm left with, interface-wise, is this, which doesn't allow any adjustments to the touchpad, other than touch sensitivity:

I went to Device Manager and tried (twice) to "roll back" the touchpad driver, but after rebooting nothing has changed.

Also, I noticed that when I went to "Turn systems icons on or off" in Windows settings, when I toggle the touchpad icon to "On", it automatically shifts to "Off" when I exit settings. Here's the screen:

This is frustrating because the new, non-adjustable touchpad settings are much different from how I'd had it set up previously, and not being able to open a user interface to adjust anything means I'm stuck with a relatively poorly functioning touchpad. Any ideas what's going on and how to fix this?

Well, I'm replying to my own post to report that I solved the problem, in case anyone else has this issues as well:

Under Windows settings: Mouse, I selected Additional mouse options, which brought up the missing/invisible Synaptics/Elan interface, allowing me to make my adjustments, as well as to pin the device's icon to the taskbar.
