HP Pavilion x360 - 15-bk193ms
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My motherboard has two ram slots, so I thought of upgrading my computer by adding another ram stick as my computer came with one 8gb stick and the other slot is empty.

However, when I added the other stick it does not show and task manager shows:  Slots used:         1 of 1,

So I thought that maybe on of the slots are not working, so I removed the new ram stick and put the old one in the second slot, and the computer booted up, and it also boots up with only the new one in either slot.

So my question is, was the slot purposely disabled by Intel? Or is there something else behind it.

Very interesting, the  Maintenance and Service Guide (page 3) says it has 2 slots but only supports 8GB max on a single slot that  why it works on either slot but not both. You can use both slots only if

  • 8GB = 2 x 4GB or4GB + 4GB
  • 6GB = 4GB + 2GB

Regards.
