Omen 15-dc0030nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The 128GB SSD in my new HP Omen is so small. So much of the SSD is already used up by the OS and bloatware.

Is there an extra SSD slot to add a 2nd larger SSD to copy the OS over before swapping the larger SSD as the C: drive as the 128GB is now? Or should I copy the 128GB SSD to the 1TB HDD and temporarily change that to the Boot Drive and swap the SSD that way?

I love my new Omen, but I didn't realize that the 128GB SSD is the Primary C: drive with Windows 10 installed there.

I've been installing anything  else to the 1TB HDD instead because so much of the SSD is already used up by the OS and bloatware.

P.S. why am I seeing this message when I try to post  this message?? I had no HTML in my message!

@BonJo

Machine is designed to use

  • 128GB M.2 SSD ONLY for Windows, programs and system files (One of my test machines only has 120GB and I put many software on it I still get 25% spare space}.
  • to put user data/files are on 1TB normal HDD.

Some (not all) applications allow use to install on other drive too, no need to be on C:. All you need is to set other drive as default to store data/files

Now, back to your plan. You can clone C: to 1TB but this would take all the headaches. The quick and easy way

(a) Buy new larger (capacity) M.2 SSD which is similar (aka same brand) of your existing M.2 SSD,

(b) Clone existing M.2 SSD to new M.2 SSD,

(c) Physically swap them.

Regards.

Hi Banhien,

Thank you for confirming what I figured I would need to do....swap out the current SSD for a 250GB or 500GB...which I am not planning to do soon...I'm thinking ahead. I am not in any rush to open up my new Omen and hoping my new Omen will be like what you mentioned and that I won't be using up the hard drive as fast as I think, because I'm installing everything to the 1TB HDD.

As far as cloning the current SSD, don't I need to use an external USB SSD case to connect the new, larger SSD in order to clone the original 128GB SSD?

Just an FYI:

I got the Omen 15 last month because I feel condident with HP...I'm still using my HP Elite Pavilion M9200T from 2007 or 2008 and it still works great. I 'm pretty sure I'm still using the original 750GB hard drive {I don't remember replacing it) and recently added a second internal hard drive (1TB) as the back-up to soon swap (I cloned the 750GB drive). I've changed the video card twice & doubled the RAM to 8GB-the maximum allowed on the original motherboard.
