Hi @Aldreine,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the built-in keyboard on your HP Notebook is not working properly, you can try the following steps to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue.
- Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary issues. Restart your HP Notebook and see if the problem persists.
- Check for Physical Damage: Inspect the built-in keyboard for any physical damage, such as loose keys or spilled liquids. If you find any issues, you may need to get the keyboard repaired or replaced.
- Update Device Drivers: Ensure that your keyboard drivers are up to date. You can do this by going to the Device Manager, finding the keyboard under "Keyboards," right-clicking, and selecting "Update driver." You can also visit the official HP website to download and install the latest keyboard drivers for your specific model.
- Uninstall and Reinstall Keyboard Drivers: If updating the drivers doesn't solve the issue, you can try uninstalling the keyboard drivers and then letting Windows reinstall them automatically. In the Device Manager, right-click on the keyboard, select "Uninstall device," and restart your laptop.
- Check Keyboard Settings: Ensure that the keyboard settings are configured correctly. Go to "Settings" > "Devices" > "Typing" and make sure that the correct keyboard layout and language are selected.
- Run Hardware Troubleshooter: Windows has a built-in troubleshooter that can help identify and fix hardware issues. Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Troubleshoot" > "Hardware and Devices" and run the troubleshooter.
- System Restore: If the issue started recently, you can use System Restore to revert your system to a point when the keyboard was working correctly. To do this, type "Create a restore point" in the Windows search bar, open the System Properties, go to the "System Protection" tab, and click on "System Restore."
- Check for Malware: Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to check for malware or other security threats that might be affecting your system.
If the problem persists after trying these steps, there might be a hardware issue with the keyboard,
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hey Aldreine.
I had the same problem and fixed it.
I went into my language settings and clicked on keyboard:
Next, I clicked on the drop down box and switched it to English (United States)
Took a few seconds and after it worked fine.
