Hp spectre x360 15t
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

My hp spectre x360 refuses to read any sd card that is inserted into it's slot. The computer does not make a sound, and the contents do not show up on file explorer.

I have looked through similar forums and tried updating my drivers.

The SD card reader does not show up anywhere on device manager.

I'm running Windows 10(64-bit) 1809.

Greetings! @AndyGamer3699

here are a few things I recommend you do:

Go into device manager and uninstall the card reader, it should be listed as IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.

This will uninstall and reinstall the driver for the card reader.

  1. Open Device Manager (Hold Windows + X key and select device manager)

  2. Follow the instructions in the preceding procedure to uninstall the device.

  3. If you are prompted to restart the computer, follow these steps:

    • Plug in the device and then restart the computer. The device will be detected and reinstalled after Windows restarts.
    • Follow any instructions on-screen to complete the installation.

  4. If you are not prompted to restart the computer, follow these steps:

    • In Device Manager, in the Action menu, click Scan for hardware changes.

*Note
Scan for hardware changes will not reinstall a Plug and Play device if a driver is already installed on the computer. If the device has not been uninstalled, Scan for hardware changes will not detect the connection of the device as a change. You must uninstall a Plug and Play device for Windows to start installation when you connect the device again.

Hello,

So I opened my device manager as you suggested, and in the drop down menu I opened the "IDE ATA/ATAPI controller" dropdown which listed:

"Intel(R) 100 Series/C230 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller"

This I uninstalled and reinstalled, I did not get any pop-ups asking me to install anything. The scan for hardware changes also did not help.

The SD card slot in intalled in the computer and the system does not even blink when the card is inserted. It is a Sandisk SD card, 2gb. Works on the camera and a old dell laptop I have, running on windows 10, 1803.

Thank you, i look forword to hearing from you, and I hope to solve the error.

@AndyGamer3699 If you've gone through all the steps and restarted the PC before checking the card again, yet it doesn't work, this could be a hardware malfunction, I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options:

follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on "Continue as guest".

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!
