Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop refused to boot and displayed the 3F0 Boot Device not Found error. In my attempts to fix it, it's now stuck at "Preparing Automatic Repair" window. What do I do please?

Hi @Chris12579 .

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing 3F0 Boot Device error issues with your HP laptop. Let's try a step-by-step approach to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

Hard Reset:

  • Turn off your laptop.
  • Disconnect all external devices and remove any discs or USB drives.
  • Unplug the power adapter.
  • Remove the battery, if possible.
  • Hold down the power button for about 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and power adapter.
  • Turn on your laptop.

Boot into Safe Mode:

  • If your laptop manages to boot into Windows, try booting into Safe Mode.
    • Restart your laptop and press the F8 key repeatedly during the boot process.
    • Choose "Safe Mode" from the advanced startup options.
  • If you can access Safe Mode, you can uninstall recently installed drivers or programs that might be causing the issue.

Use System Restore:

  • If you have a restore point, you can try using System Restore to revert your system to a previous state.
    • Boot from a Windows installation media (USB/DVD).
    • Select your language preferences and click "Next."
    • Click "Repair your computer."
    • Choose "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced options" > "System Restore."

Check and Repair Disk Errors:

  • Boot from a Windows installation media.
  • Navigate to "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced options" > "Command Prompt."
  • In the Command Prompt, type chkdsk /f /r C: and press Enter.
  • Let the process complete, and it will attempt to fix any disk errors.

Automatic Repair:

  • Boot from a Windows installation media.
  • Navigate to "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced options" > "Startup Repair."
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to let Windows attempt to repair the startup.

Reinstall Windows:

  • If none of the above solutions work, you may need to consider reinstalling Windows. Before doing this, ensure you have a backup of your important data.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
