The keyboard started to malfunction - the keys "8", "i", "k", ".", which are located on the same diagonal line of the keyboard, are not pressed.
It manifests itself like this: it works without failures for several days, then it does not press in 30% of cases during the day. The problem appeared somewhere in October 2024.
I exclude the possibility of all 4 keys being clogged at the same time. I completely disassembled one of them, cleaned it perfectly - no result.
A couple of years ago there was a problem with the keyboard (keystrokes were duplicated), which was solved by updating the BIOS from F.18 to F.29 Rev.A.
On 07/12/2024, the BIOS was updated from F.29 Rev.A to F30 (the update came through the Windows Update Center). I tried to roll back to the previous version - no result.
Over the past six months, I have updated many drivers in an attempt to fix the BSOD error that sometimes appears. I assumed that this might be the problem, but there is no way to restore previous driver versions.
I found the same problem on HP Community, but there is no solution.
HP Envy 15-ds0003ur x360.
Has anyone encountered this problem?
How to find out the part number?

The problem could only be solved by completely replacing the keyboard (along with the topcase).

Hi @GolD777, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Your issue sounds like a classic case of a keyboard matrix failure—a specific row or column of keys failing intermittently. Given the pattern of affected keys ("8", "i", "k", "." on a diagonal line), it's likely a hardware issue rather than a driver or software conflict.
Troubleshooting Steps:
External Keyboard Test:
- Plug in an external USB or Bluetooth keyboard. If it works fine, it's definitely a hardware issue with your laptop's keyboard.
Check in BIOS or Safe Mode:
- Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS (press F10 at startup). Test the keyboard there. If the issue persists, it's a hardware fault.
- Alternatively, boot into Safe Mode (Shift + Restart → Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Settings → Enable Safe Mode) and check if the keys work.
Flexing the Chassis / Reseating the Ribbon Cable:
- Since the issue appears intermittently, gently press around the keyboard or flex the laptop’s chassis to see if the keys respond.
- Try reconnecting the keyboard ribbon cable—loose or damaged connections might cause key failures.
Check for Software Conflicts:
- Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (press F2 at boot) and test the keyboard.
- Open Device Manager (devmgmt.msc) → Keyboards and uninstall the keyboard driver, then restart to reinstall automatically.
- Test with a Live USB OS (Linux, Windows PE) to rule out software conflicts.
You can find the part number from Maintenance and Service guide, please follow this link - HP ENVY x360 - 15-ds0003ur - Setup and User Guides | HP® Support
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
